Freedom. Such a simple word with an extraordinary meaning. We take freedom so often for granted. Most of you reading this have the luxury to spend your time the way you want to. What were doing today at 12pm? Do you even remember? I think I only remember because I was sitting in a doctors office trying not to contract germs from the man sitting beside me calling people to tell them that he thought he had the flu 😱😷ðŸ˜. I had a small pity party, but my mind kept thinking about what Jesus was doing at 12pm on Friday so many, many years ago.
Over 2,000 years ago Jesus was being nailed to the cross. He had been beaten. He had to carry his own cross. His hands and feet were nailed to the wood. His flesh was tearing at the slightest movement. He had blood on his face from earring a crown of thorns. He needed water desperately. He had been denied by one of his own disciples, Peter. He was mocked and scorned by people who once followed him. Jesus cried out to God, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)
Something happened on the cross that we as humans will never understand. All of our sins were placed on Jesus. He had become guilty in the eyes of God for every sin that had or will ever be committed. Jesus took the judgement we so rightly deserved. Why? Because he loves us THAT much! That to me means so much. He died for sins that we have yet to commit. He chose us over himself.
We have the luxury to choose what we do with our freedom because Jesus chose us.
